The Lake District Guide
|
|
Exhibitions & Galleries in the English Lake District. There's an astonishing range of galleries, craft shops and exhibitions of all kinds in the Lakes. Since the 17th century, artists and writers have been inspired by the beauty, tranquillity and spirituality of the Lakes. Now you can share in the product of this inspiration, with works by local artists, craftsmen and women, and some wonderful permanent collections in the care of the local councils at Kendal, Cockermouth and Egremont.Kendal, Windermere & the South LakesNational Park Print Shop Here's a venture worthy of our support: a new independent gallery, print studio and shop. National Park Print Shop is a "Risograph" studio, gallery and shop in the heart of Windermere. They sell prints from UK and local artists as well as lots of pins, patches, stickers and cards from indie makers and artists who have a love of bright bold colours and the outdoors. (RISO prints are made with a Risograph printer. This works as a screenprinter, using rich spot colours and stencils to create tactile and vibrant prints, affordably and with little impact to our environment. Creativity, elegance and environmental consciousness combine here for wonderful gifts and souvenirs!) National Park Print Shop Abbot Hall Georgian art gallery with four nationally
important exhibitions each year. Pulls its weight far above the usual
regional gallery standard - see the website for the great work done by the
Lakeland Arts Trust. This award-winning Arts & Crafts Movement
house, fully restored, features various exhibitions,
and is located in a superb spot overlooking Lake Windermere. This stylish gallery of jewellery,
crafts, arts, sculpture, gifts and more is situated beside
the beautiful Lakeland estuary at Arnside. A museum and gallery containing the
unique photographic collection of Stuart Clarke. With regular exhibitions of original
paintings by acclaimed local and international artists, unique prints,
Limited editions and distinctive giftware. This small art gallery of superb original
work by Jennifer Hardisty is now closed, but the web site is still active
as a marketplace for her work, and is well worth a visit.

for art has come true, he intends to "develop it into one of the top
venues for contemporary and influential art in the UK." Jonathan's
sculpture draws creative energy from the natural world. His work draws
deeply on religious tradition, but his work is often figurative.
